Bubbles babble

I’ve been talkin’ with Quilly about Bubbles and I’m starting to consider making her voice loss even more severe than I was previously thinking.  I’m considering this because I’ve noticed that Bubbles doesn’t have a central internal conflict anywhere near as big as those of her sisters (since she is/was a much more well adjusted teen compared to them), and I could perhaps make it so her voice loss IS her central internal conflict. And for that it needs to carry a lot of weight and be a big hardship.  She still won’t be totally mute (though she might be for a little while following the damage), but I’mma quote Quilly who I think put it really good: “I like the idea that once in a great while she can muster the strength and vocal chords to say small, profound things to the ones she loves. Y’know. Every once in a while. Telling her family she loves them after a major crisis, or saying something particularly bone-chilling to someone who’s gotten on her bad list”.  I’m thinking eventually she’ll figure out a way to use her empath abilities to help her communicate and do that more often (not full telepathy, but she would be able to project feelings and possibly eventually mental images to others, and would use that in combination with non-verbal cues (and her bird friend) to communicate).

It wasn’t really something I’d planned from the beginning.  It just felt right with the way I was developing “my” Blossom’s character and having her grow and change.   I’ve always interpreted Blossom in general as the career woman type, the one least likely to have a lot of relationships or get married or have kids or, well, have lots of sexytimes.  She’s too busy, that’s not a priority.  Obviously that doesn’t make someone asexual, but with “my” Blossom that aspect of her get’s pushed to the extreme and she just…doesn’t care about it anymore, if she ever did?  Blossom doesn’t hate sex or anything, she’s just not interested. It’s not fun for her.  her high-strung/overly self disciplining nature probably plays some part in it but I figure just her natural drive/orientation plays a large role.

I theorized many many different angles for possibly giving her a romantic/sexual subplot (er, a “traditional” one, since her existing stuff with Mojo could be considered a form of romance) and none of them worked for me with this Blossom no matter how I looked at it.  She just wasn’t having it, haha.  So her being a form of asexual just seemed like the natural conclusion.

Don’t worry!  This confuses a lot of people.  I’m not a writer, just an artist, so it’s more of a story outline/universe outline. when the outline is complete it will hopefully be organized on the “about” page.  Some people have been awesome enough to turn bits of the story into “proper” fics and such, but currently there’s no set plan for a full fic/comic of the entire thing (it would be super cool, but I couldn’t do it alone and it’d unreasonable to expect anyone else to devote the time it would take).

Do Princess and Bubbles or Ace and Buttercup ever break up in Squishyverse? Either permanently or at a point in their relationship but end up getting back together.

There’s a period during the invasion where Ace and Buttercup have basically broken up (And this is a while after the initial OH NO SHE’S BUTTERCUP shock, it’s kind of related but different and lasts much longer)  I’m still working on the details of the invasion period so that part is still sketchy.  Bubbles and Princess will probably have a similar moment but Bubbles wouldn’t consider it a break up, Princess just assumes it is.

 Beyond that I don’t currently have any specific ideas relating to that kind of thing, but it’s certainly a possibility.  Since for now I have time “stop” when the Girls are young adults I don’t yet know how the relationships will end, and stuff can always be added in-between.

I doubt I’d ever have a permanent break up of one of the two main couples be canon tho, haha.  I’m willing to do tons of dramatastic stuff but that’s probably too big of a bummer for me.  I love my dumb ships.  I’m also trying to keep ~romantic drama~ from being the “dramatic centerpiece” of the ‘verse, I want it more to sort of integrate into everything else in a subdued way, and I’ve never been fond of the idea that established relationships are only interesting when they constantly have huge problems.

Bubbles is Bi/Pan but ends up leaning strongly towards women (to the point that as an adult she arguably considers herself more of a lesbian).

Princess is a lesbian full stop.  It takes her a while to realize/admit it, tho.

Buttercup I actually have a hard time deciding for, other then that she obviously does like dudes.  For now I’ll say she’s straight but it’s tentative.

Blossom…If you ask her she’ll say she’s straight, but that’s more because she hasn’t thought about it than anything.  By most definitions she’s asexual.

GUESS I’LL DO MORE THEN UH

-Later on it’s not uncommon for her to nonchalantly grab cigarettes right out of his mouth and start smoking them herself.  The first time she did this was probably during a particularly stressful point of the invasion. “Uh, since when d-“”SINCE RIGHT NOW”  (then she hacks and he laughs and she punches him in the arm).

-The last Ace headcanon wasn’t quiiiiite true.  He’s tried to draw her a few times. He’s never showed them to anyone, though.

-(I’m half-stealing this one from Ali, tho similar thoughts have passed through my mind before)  Sometimes he’ll get her new show outfits.  She’ll always pretend to hate them.

-Ace is the only one allowed to dye her hair.  Even the stupid professionals don’t “do it right”.   She’ll still moan about how long it takes every time, though.

-Sometimes, when nobody else is around, Buttercup will still let him call her “Belladonna” like it’s her name.  The only time it ever really felt like her name was when he said it, anyway.

LET US RESUME

-Even in a universe where characters have more than one outfit, pointy Cuban-heeled boots are the only footwear he will wear.  Ever.

-The poofy neon vests of his teenhood were partially an attempt to make himself look bigger (but he also genuinely thinks they were badass.  Because.  He’s a dweeb).  To an extent the leather jackets also serve this purpose, but less so.

-I know variations of this are pretty common considering what the Gang are based on but whatever:  Ace is actually pretty good at drawing but he’ll only ever draw tacky hot rod type shit (it’s unknown if this is due to actual limitation in skill or because drawing anything else just never crosses his mind).  He’s responsible for the Band’s logo and the garish monstrosity that is their tour bus.

-I don’t think her original crush on him has any real bearing on them getting together later?  Like the way I’ve got it the Gang skips town when the Girls are 8-ish and Buttercup genuinely doesn’t care, really.  It’s when the whole Belladonna thing thrusts them back together that ~stuff~ happens.

-They don’t get married.  Or, well, something like “drunken truth or dare leads to trip to courthouse” or “Vegas trip get’s weird, never spoken of again” miiight be possibilities igss. Wedding ceremony is a big NO, tho.

-Buttercup putting hot rod flames on her roboleg was probably his idea.  The suggestion probably initially earned him a punch in the arm but moments later she realized that hey that would actually be pretty bitchin’

OH BOY

-Mr. Green is a bit of the sentimental type (and deep deep down so is Jack ssshhhhhhhhh) so their house/apartment (haven’t decided) is littered with photos.  Jack is making the exact same >:I face in all of them.  Green can distinguish his mood in each of them, tho.

-“Now, Jack, remember your blood pressure.” is a rather common utterance.

-Jack is not allowed to cook.

Is this still during the time when Blossoms totally lost it? ‘Cause I just got this mental image of Ace (and maybe the rest of the gang) hunting Buttercup down wherever she ends up crashing after the injury that wrecks her leg and being all snarly-faced “Get away from her…

It would be when Blossom’s putting herself back together, since Buttercup’s injury will most likely happen in the final battle with her clone and I want the clones beaten around the same time (and Blossom won’t be able to beat her clone until she’s stable again).  Talking with Buttercup post-fixing is supposed to be the final piece to put Blossom “right” again.  I was gonna post about it later when I’ve figured more out, BUT I’m thinking Ace will show up, but later, in the medical area and it does lead to kerfuffle.
